As the leading public sector organization in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PEDO has made significant strides in promoting renewable energy, recognizing its crucial role in combating climate change and ensuring energy security. Our focus remains on harnessing the province’s vast hydropower, solar, and wind energy potential.
Over the past year, PEDO has successfully completed multiple hydropower projects, generating affordable and environment friendly electricity. These efforts have reduced the overall cost of power generation, minimizing the burden on the national grid and benefiting consumers through lower electricity bills.
PEDO’s financial success is evident, with assets worth billions of rupees and revenue generation of over Rs. 55 billion for the provincial government. Our projects, with a cumulative capacity of 2750 MW planned over the next decade, contribute to socio-economic development, creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and enhancing local communities’ quality of life.
Notable initiatives in Public Sector includes:
- Eight completed hydropower projects with a total capacity of 172 MW
- Six near-completion projects adding 226 MW of clean energy
- Construction of 300 MW Balakot Hydropower Project, funded by the Asian Development Bank
- Construction of 88 MW Gabral Kalam and 215 MW Madyan projects, funded by the World Bank
Under our social uplift schemes, we’ve completed solarization projects of cumulative capacity of 26MW, installing solar systems in government buildings, mosques, schools and basic health units. Our Mini Micro Hydro Power Projects (MMHPs) have delivered 29 MW of off-grid power across seven districts, with Phase II underway which will add cumulative capacity of 41.3 MW.
Our commitment to global sustainability aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. Through renewable energy projects, we ensure access to reliable, sustainable energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
To facilitate power evacuation, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa established the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transmission & Grid System Company (KPT&GSC). This initiative will tap the province’s vast hydropower potential and attract private investment.
Future plans include:
- Establishing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Electric Regulatory Commission (K-PERC)
- Setting up the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Power Distribution Company (KP-PDC)
- Solarizing 130,000 households through a subsidy and loan program
At PEDO, we’re committed to leading the charge towards a sustainable energy future, rooted in economic viability, environmental responsibility, and social progress.
