Solarization of 300 Masajid / Worship in Merged Districts

Project Brief:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has taken initiative to impart Alternative Energy solutions for the Masajid in merged districts (erstwhile FATA) of KPK to resolve the problem of load-shedding and power outages. Government of KP for the first time in history has taken the initiative for installation of alternative energy solution in form of solar energy system at masjid. This initiative has strong public/community acceptability across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and benefices/population masses are excited to the initiative of the KP Government taken for resolution of power interruption and power shortage. It is also a source of inspirations for the general public. This project will deliver socio-economic benefits to the community. It will provide the community with energy for social and religious gatherings. The prime objective of this project is the provision of economically viable, technically feasible, cost efficient and environment friendly electricity supply. Therefore, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has proposed the Solar Electrification of 300 masjid/worship places for Non-Muslims in merged districts (Erstwhile FATA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Challenges Faced During Implementation:

Harder area:

The first major issue was noted that the major portion of the Masajid of the are located in hilly areas and there were no proper roads/routes to access theses harder areas for distributing and installing the solar system.

Finalizing lists of Masajid:

Moreover, finalizing the list of the Masajid to whom solar systems were installed was another issue which was faced during project implementation. Responsibility of the finalization of the lists of the household were assigned to the Member of Provincial Assembly under the supervision of engineer in charge and department engineers but due to some community-based issues, delay occurred in finalization the list of various areas. Later on, issues were solved but resulted in late implantation of the project.

Security issues:

Security is one of the major concerns in merged districts. In the start the installation team’s faces major security issues but later on, PEDO requested local district administration for providing security to the installation teams and was resolved up to some extent.

Challenges Faced During 2022-23:

Security is one of the major concerns in merged districts while providing services during the Defect Liability Period (DLP).
