Project Brief
The project is located at village Alo Tehsil Katlang, District Mardan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province (KPK) on Machai Canal, which is a part of Upper Swat Canal System off-taking from Amandara Headworks on River Swat.
It is the provincial hydel project, which delivers 2.6 MW active power to the National Grid at Katlang through an 11 KV Transmission Line. Kaplan type-1 Turbine capable of generating approximately 2.6 MW under maximum water flow conditions (40 m3/sec) with the net head of 7.88 meters is being used for the generation of power.
Operation & Maintenance (O&M) was outsourced to M/S Hydro Tech Pak. Pvt. Ltd. on September 1, 2014. O&M Contract expired on January 31, 2023 and after the expiry of the said contract, PEDO decided to take over the Operation & Maintenance on the pattern of self/indigenous O&M from February 1, 2023.

Achievements
- PEDO for the first time is running the project through its own staff who are operating it successfully since its energization; thus, is saving a huge cost of O&M out sourcing.
- Moreover, PEDO Board has approved the Captive generation to industries, which will increase the revenue of the power plant and will provide impetus to the local industries.
