Projects Brief:
After merger of FATA in 2018 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the Projects started and Executing by Defunct Fata Development Authority (FDA) are shifted to Respective departments and so all energy being started by FDA are shifted to Irrigation department (small dams section merged area) in 2018 and then to Energy and Power Departments and PEDO in August 2020. Twelve (12) small Projects were shifted from Irrigation department to PEDO for further execution and completion in March 2021. Out of 12 Projects two (2) were completed and two (2) Projects were dropped due to social issues. The remaining 8 Projects are under construction and at various stages of completion. Merged Area (Ex-FATA) is spread over an area of 27220 Sq Km with a population of about 5.1 million according to census in 2017. Most of the population is living in far flung areas where power facilities are not available. Merged Area (Ex-FATA) is a backward administrative unit in Pakistan, hence most energy deficient area of the country. There are large numbers of remote villages in Merged Area (EX-FATA) and most of them are without electricity. According to TESCO, the power provided in Merged Area (EX-FATA) is 184MW (maximum) against the demand of 600MW while the peak load is calculated as 781MW and about 2/3 percent of total population have no access to electricity. There are about 1108 MW identified potential of Hydel, Solar and wind Power available in merged districts. Therefore, construction of small hydel is the best and easy way to provide cheap and clean electricity to the poor and war affected peoples of merged area. These small Projects are community uplifts Projects which have the following benefits and will act as a “life changer”.
- The villages/houses will have electricity during night.
- Carbon Emission will be minimized: The local will shift their cooking and heating from kerosene oil, firewood and coal to this clean and green energy.
- Improved health/health facilities: The health condition of local will be improved as they will shift their heating, cooking and lightening to clean and Green energy.
- In local BHUs x-rays and other machinery will be brought into use and the local will start getting benefits.
- Enhancing Afforestation: By using this clean energy for cooking and heating afforestation will be enhanced as cutting of tress will be minimized and more trees will be planted which will enhance afforestation and contributed to the vision of “Clean and Green Pakistan”.
- Environmental pollution will be Minimized: Use of kerosene oil, firewood and coal emit many harmful gases and Carbon to air which causes air pollution which will be minimized as after establishment of these green energy projects the local will start using this clean energy which are environmental friendly energy.
- Agriculture will be promoted as more land will be irrigated and brought under cultivation due to having this cheap and green energy.
- Tourism will be improved: Due to improved facility and light in the area.
- Education level will be improved: The student will have light in houses and in schools hence get better education by using modern technological equipment’s.
- Job Opportunities will be increased and Unemployment/Poverty ratio will be reduced: The locals will be given multiple trainings on skills enhancement to establish enterprises and small scale business using energy to improve social life.
- Empower Local Women and enhancing their life conditions: Empower local Women by providing, health, education facilities and after getting skilled trainings on effectively using this energy to earn money and live a happy life.
- Enhancing Economic Condition by establishing small businesses: Different Businesses like wood machines, fruits processing plants, stone crushing factories, hotels, tailoring shops and Homemade Embroidery Work on clothes etc. will be established.
- Improved Economic and Social Condition by ensuring sustainable enterprises: Different small scale social uplift programs will be started (after obtaining trainings) like hoteling, fruit processing, marble and crush stone factories, which help in reducing poverty.
- Reduced workload on Women: workload on Women will be reduced as they can easily perform their household chores till late at night and can use electric appliances like iron, washing machine, butter churner etc. by having this electricity.
- Training of Operators/Sustainability of the MHPs: Trainings will be given on Operation of hydels to operators and locals which will ensure sustainability and Jobs
- Women and youth Improvement by having jobs and skills: Local women/Youth will be given sewing machine after trainings and other machine /tool kits to start small business or enterprise to have a better economic conditions.
- Disaster reduction/Resilience capacity: The effect of disaster will be minimized as the local will be resistant to disaster effect having improved economic condition and increased capability to resist and have improved disaster precautionary measures.
- Gender equality: As more trainings will be given to women and youth having more skills they will have good jobs and businesses Opportunities as a result the issue of gender equality will be minimized.
- Reduced the Impact/Intensity of climate changed disasters.
