Project Brief:
Chapare – Charkhil Hydropower Project is located at a distance of about 16 km from Thal on the main Thal-Parachinar Road. Proper access up to the proposed location of weir is possible by crossing Kurram River over an existing bridge short of Charkhil village, leading to the right bank of the Kurram River and passing through the village Madi Shamu. The project will be funded from Accelerated Implementation Program. The project will contribute energy of 83.1 GWh to National Grid.
Chapare – Charkhil Hydropower Project is located in Lower Kurram. The Hydropower project will produce energy using run of the river flow of Kurram River. A partially gated diversion weir will divert 25.48cumecs of water to 2471 meter long headrace channel & 3337 meter long tunnel which ultimately ends at forebay. The water from forebay will lead through penstock whereby three units of Francis Turbines are installed for generation, each having a capacity of 4.5 MW.
The Energy Generated will be connected with national grid through about 4 KM long 132 KV Thal-Alizai Transmission with loop in loop out arrangement.
