Solarization of Schools in Merged Area

Project Brief:

In this project total 1100 schools will be solarized in newly merged seven tribal districts and six sub-divisions of the province, which comprises 601 Boys Schools and 499 Girls Schools.. The proposed project provides quick and cost-efficient alternate energy resources for already over stretched national grid electricity.

For Solarization 1st Priority will be given to the schools located in off-grid areas. The 2nd priority will be given to the schools located in heavy load shedding areas the 3rd priority will be given to those schools which have already installed Solar system but required strengthening.

For smooth and efficient execution of the project, the works has been divided into six packages. All the administrative divisions of all merged districts and frontier regions (FRs) (Erstwhile FATA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be divided into four regions.

Commencement Date: 29th April, 2022

Current Status:

  • Physical Progress: 23 %

Challenges Faced During Implementation:

  • The Ministry of Commerce (MOC), imposed the ban on imports via SRO No. 598(I)/2022, effective from 19th May 2022.

  • PV Modules, Battery and Inverters fall under chapter 84 & 85 of HS Codes which were restricted from imports under the above-mentioned SRO.

  • Floods in Southern Region of the province also affected the project activities during summer 2022.

  • Law & Order situation in North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Jandola, Bhettani and Darazinda affected the project activities.

  • Allocation and release of funds also adversely affected the project activities.

  • Contractors Liabilities in Package 02, Package 04 and Package 05 are still not cleared for last 12 months.

  • Consultant Liability upon completion of 30% of physical works at site is still pending.

Delay in replacement of infeasible sites with alternate sites also causes delay in implementation of the project
