Madyan Hydropower Project, Swat

Project Brief:

Madyan Hydropower Project is a run of river scheme proposed on upper stretch of Swat Rive cascade development. The Madyan hydropower Project is third among cascade scheme of Swat River. The Project is located at Madyan Region nearly, 247 km from Peshawar and 52 Km from Mingora. Weir site is located in Kedam Village about 14 km and the Power House is located in Kalagae village about 1.2 Km upstream north of Madyan town. The Project comprises of diversion weir with horizontal intake, an approach tunnel leading the water to desander from where the water enters in to low pressure headrace tunnel followed by surge tank and pressure tunnel. At the end of Pressure tunnel a Surge Shaft is provided which is connected to Penstock which finishes in connection with Turbine Generator assembly inside Power house. The power generated will be fed through 220 KV double Circuit transmission between Kalam Asrit HPP and Chakdara new 220KV grid station. Overall progress of the project includes Updation of Feasibility study and finalization of Detail Design/Bidding documents for both the Civil and E&M packages.

Current Status:

  • Review of Feasibility study and detail design 100%

Pre-qualification for hiring of contractors is finalized and RFP will be issued to the prospective contractors.

Challenges Faced During Design and Bidding Phase:

  • Delay in updation of Feasibility study and Detail Design (both Civil and E&M) due to impact/ reconfiguration and weir site relocation after unprecedent floods in August 2022.
