    PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

The main objective is development of power sector to provide adequate facilities for the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy keeping in view the present severe power shortage and future requirements for industrial, agricultural and economic development of the country.

The High Head Hydropower development at Matiltan will provide cheaper hydropower at competitively low cost. The Project with an installed capacity of 84 MW would generate an annual energy of about 346 GWh.

BENEFITS OF THE PROJECT:

i.                    FINANCIAL

It will produce an annual energy of 346 GWh. After deducting auxiliaries and other losses 328.7 GWh will be available for sale. The Project will earn revenue of Rs. 3237.6 Million per annum.

ii.                  ECONOMIC

This Hydel Project after completion will produce energy at a very low cost as compared to Thermal Power Project of equivalent capacity.  The Project will result in reduced dependence on thermal power option thereby saving foreign exchange.

The Project will assist to meet the industrial and agricultural sector power demand for economic development

iii.                SOCIAL BENEFITS

The Project will assist to meet the domestic power demand of the area. Ensured power supply will help promote health, education and other infrastructural facilities as well as significant impacts on agricultural and small industrial sector of the inhabitants. The revenues of Govt. would increase due to direct and indirect taxation, duties and levies on the production of goods and services that will result from the power generation benefits within the Project area.
