Project Brief

Pehur Hydropower Complex is constructed at the out let of Gandaf Tunnel emanating from Tarbela Reservoir to feed the Pehur High level canal PHLC located in District Swabi, 1km south of Gadoon Industrial State.

The idea of Pehur Hydropower Project (PHPP) was conceived in 1993 during the feasibility study of the Pehur High Level Canal (PHLC) Project. Technical feasibility study for PHPP was completed in May 2001 and the PC-1 of the project was approved in February 2005. The construction work on the project started in November 2005 and was completed in July 2009. The total cost of the project was around 900Million PKR of which 50% was financed by Sarhad Hydel Development Fund (HDF) and 50% by Annual Development Program (ADP).

The Generation License [No.GL (Hydel)/08/2009] was granted by National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to Sarhad Hydel Development Organization (SHYDO) for 18 MW Pehur Hydropower Plant in November 2009.

The project achieved the COD on 1^st  March, 2010. Pehur HPC interconnected with 132KV Gadoon grid station. The annual generation of the plant is 57.7 GWh. So far Pehur HPC has generated 642.052 GWh of energy.

Salient Features

Challenges Faced During Year (2022-23)

Pehur HPC never achieves its annual generation target i.e.  57.7 GWhr, due to the following two reasons.

1)   Annual canal closure period (January & February).

2)   No irrigation demand at the Pehur high level canal during monsoon season.

3)  Frequent shut down of power house due to accidental fall of locals in the canal particularly during summer season.

Innovation & Achievements

1)      The Historic achievement in Generation for the year 2022-23 is 51.26 GWh, as a result of optimum use of Pehur   canal flows.

2)     
Wheeling phase-I of power generated by 18 MW Pehur HPC to local industries helped industrialization in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that provided industrial sector an opportunity to become competitive in the global market.
